At CROWN Veterinary Dental Specialists, we get a ton of interesting questions from pet parents. Below are some common FAQs that might help answer any questions or concerns. Please feel free to call us at (980) 222-4260 for any other concerns you might have about your pet.
Does my pet need blood work prior to their procedure?

Yes, we do require pre-surgical bloodwork to be performed for our patients. In most cases this can be done with your primary care veterinarian. Specific bloodwork recommendations and the time frame it should be done in will be made for your pet at their consultation. Sometimes, day of procedure blood work is recommended and will be done with our in-house laboratory equipment.

Does my pet need to be referred for your services?
No, we do not require a referral form to be sent by your primary care veterinarian, however, we do not accept emergency cases without transfer from another veterinarian to ensure your pet is stable enough for transfer.
Will my pet have to stay overnight?
No, we do not keep patients overnight. If a patient requires overnight care, transfer to an overnight facility will need to occur. We require owners to personally transport their pet to the overnight facility, which will be discussed with the client by the doctor. Generally, patients will be transferred next door to Carolina Veterinary Specialists.
Is imaging done at the same time as the cleaning?
The imaging is done at the same time as the procedure. General anesthesia is needed for dental x-rays and cone beam CT scan. If extractions are performed, additional imaging is done after the surgical procedure is completed to ensure no root remnants remain.
If my pet has other health conditions, how will anesthesia be handled?
We tailor our anesthesia protocols to cater to each patient’s individual needs. Depending on if the patient has chronic diseases such as kidney disease, heart disease, or diabetes we may request specific diagnostics to prepare for anesthesia (specific blood testing, imaging, cardiac work up, etc).

crown also has board certified veterinary anesthesiologist, Dr. Daniel Almeida to assist in our anesthetic cases. His services range from consultations to make anesthetic recommendations to overseeing patientโ€™s directly during their anesthetic procedure.
