Pet Dental Extractions

If a tooth is diseased (fractured, periodontal disease, or. dead), a viable treatment option may be surgical extraction. In pets, the roots of their teeth are much longer than in humans. Many of these teeth require the preparation of a mucoginigval flap (gum flap) in order to better visualize the tooth for removal. The gums are then sutured using, dissolvable sutures so that food and debris do not enter the extraction site and thus cause postoperative infections.
