Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease is the most common disease affecting companion animals. Up to 85% of most dogs and cats aged 3 and over have periodontal disease. This condition is caused by the accumulation of plaque and tartar on the teeth. It leads to inflammation and infection of the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. Early signs include bad breath, red or swollen gums, and loose teeth. If left untreated, periodontal disease causes pain, tooth loss, and systemic health issues, including heart and kidney disease.ย
